Rainbow in Darmstadt, Germany

Post-tour:
France & Germany

DAYS 19 -26 of our European Adventure

Our post-tour journey took us from Italy to Switzerland to France to Germany! Sue has relatives near Colmar, France and I have an exchange student's family in Darmstadt, Germany so this was the perfect opportunity to visit. The next 7 days were filled with food, fun and fellowship with family.

Our two hour taxi ride from Italy to Switzerland. The driver didn't speak much English but at one point he said aria fresca and pulled over at a wide turnoff. Fresh Swiss air with an amazing view!
Delectable spaetzel with Munster
cheese.
Soultzbach les Bains, the smallest of all medieval towns in the Alsace region (25 minutes from Colmar) is the birthplace of Sue's great grandfather.
We logged over 37,000 steps exploring the Colmar area in 3 days.
After 4 nights in Colmar, we  made a quick stop in Strasburg, France to marvel at their magnificent cathedral. Then it was back on the train to head to our final destination of Darmstadt, Germany for three nights.
Darmstadt is a university town, 30 minutes from Frankfurt. Waldspirale (photo above) is an apartment complex inspired by nature. The trees in this park (photo to the right) look like dancing people with green spikey hair.
Our last day in Europe we traveled to Bingen (50 minutes from Darmstadt) and had lunch overlooking the Rhein River. Then it was to Oppenheim where we were amazed at the massive cathedral for such a little town.
To cap our amazing 3 1/2 week European adventures, we celebrated at a garden party with lots of live American music,  homemade food and interesting conversation. It was held in the green space behind my exchange student's family apartment.
